Oak Park, IL – December 17, 2003 – On December 16, 2003 MyOakPark.com along with the Oak Park Public Library, hosted the first in a series of homebuyer education workshops.
“I was really impressed by the turnout, especially since we’re so close to the holidays” said Max Rose, trainer for the workshop. Nearly a dozen renters gathered in the library’s 2nd floor meeting room to learn about the various Federal, State and even Local initiatives designed specifically to help people buy their first home. The majority of the discussion was spent on down-payment assistance programs and “Insider Secrets” about the mortgage industry.
“I was very interested to hear about the Partners in Charity program, I had no idea there was that type of help out there,” said Kevin Maloney. “I’m very glad I came to this meeting.”
“It’s important to spread the word about the benefits of home ownership,” said Max Rose. “Home ownership affects everyone. In areas where people own their homes; children perform better in school; crime rates are lower; and local communities and neighborhoods are stronger.”
“In many cases, renters just need a little help with the down payment. That’s why I am involved with these workshops, to educate renters about the many programs available from HUD, Illinois Housing Development Authority and charitable organizations,” added Rose. “We’re thankful to My Oak Park and The Oak Park Public Library for their commitment to helping us in this cause.”
